Social Studies @ West Highland | January 14, 6-8pm

Social Studies @ West Highland | January 14, 6-8pm

Social Studies is a new monthly series at Cerebral Brewing West Highland, where professors meet beer and learning gets social again.

Each month, we bring in an expert to talk about something fascinating - neuroscience, philosophy, astronomy, communication, whatever makes you lean in and think "wait, tell me more." The event is casual, the topics are compelling, and the conversations are worth having.

Think of it as your smartest friend teaching you something cool over a pint. No homework, no textbooks, just curious people, great beer, and ideas worth exploring.

When: Wednesday, January 14 | 6-8pm (start of monthly series!)
Where: Cerebral Brewing West Highland (on the mezzanine!)
Cost: $20 (includes your first beer)

Come curious. Leave smarter. Have fun doing it.

Social Studies Vol. 1: The Death and Rebirth of Psychedelic Research

Remember when your parents told you drugs were bad? Turns out, some of them might actually fix your brain.

Join Dr. Jim Grigsby, professor of psychology and director of CU Denver's Center for Psychedelic Research, for the story of how psychedelics went from legitimate science in the '60s (LSD was better than opioids for pain!) to "just say no" to... wait, the federal government is funding this again?

We'll cover:

  • What scientists actually discovered before the war on drugs shut everything down

  • Why places like CU, NYU, and Johns Hopkins are suddenly all in on psilocybin research

  • What current clinical trials are finding (spoiler: it's pretty wild)

  • Why Colorado is ground zero for all of this right now

This is Social Studies: where professors meet beer and learning feels like hanging out with your smartest friend. First event ever. Be part of it.
